Dr. Martin Schilder
As an academic assistant, Martin supports our lawyers in the field of European law.
Martin is associated with the Labour & Pensions section of GMW lawyers. In that section, he works closely with Prof Hans van Meerten. He and Van Meerten approach the Dutch pension system from a European law perspective.
Martin has years of experience as a researcher and university lecturer at the Open University. With his extensive experience and knowledge in European law, government and member state liability law, state aid and multi-level governance, Martin knows how to merge law with practice. He obtained his PhD from the Open University in 2020 with a thesis “Fishing rights and tradability in the Netherlands and Europe”.

Data breaches at pension funds: mismanagement?
Last year there was another incident: the e-mail addresses of hundreds of ABP participants were made publicly available. ABP is the largest mandatory pension fund in the Netherlands, administering the pensions of civil servants, with estimated assets of 500 billion euros.
